President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed condolences to Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan following the death of her husband, Hafidh Ameir Hassan.
Tinubu, in a statement personally signed by him, described President Samia as his “dear sister and colleague” and extended his sympathy to her, her children and the entire Hassan family.
The Nigerian president acknowledged the significance of the loss, noting that Hafidh had been a lifelong companion to President Samia throughout her years of service to Tanzania.
“I know what this loss means to President Samia and her family. She has lost a lifelong companion, her children a beloved father, and the family one of its pillars,” Tinubu said.
He noted that Hafidh had stood by President Samia for nearly five decades, describing their relationship as a deep companionship that had become an integral part of her life.
“Through every season of her service to Tanzania, he stood quietly beside her. A companionship of that depth becomes part of who a person is. To lose it is to lose a portion of oneself, and I feel for her deeply,” he said.
Tinubu extended his condolences to President Samia, her children, the Hassan family and the people of Tanzania on behalf of the Nigerian government and people.
He also reaffirmed Nigeria’s solidarity with Tanzania during the period of mourning, stressing the importance of African unity and support in times of grief.
“At moments such as this, the bonds that unite us as Africans matter even more. Nigeria mourns with Tanzania and stands with President Samia and her family in this hour of grief,” Tinubu said.
The president prayed for the repose of Hafidh’s soul and asked God to grant President Samia and her family the strength and fortitude to bear the loss.
“May the Almighty Allah grant Hafidh Ameir Hassan eternal rest, comfort all those he has left behind, and give President Samia and her family the strength and fortitude to bear this painful loss,” he said.
