Ademola Lookman, Chiamaka Nnadozie Shine at CAF Awards 2024

Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman has been crowned the 2024 CAF Men’s Player of the Year, while Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie retained her title as Africa’s Best Women’s Goalkeeper. Lookman, who plays for Atalanta in Italy, edged out competitors like Simon Adingra (Ivory Coast), Serhou Guirassy (Guinea), and Achraf Hakimi (Morocco).

Lookman’s exceptional year included leading Atalanta to their first major trophy in 61 years, the UEFA Europa League, where he scored a hat-trick in the final against Bayer Leverkusen. He also played a key role in Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign, helping the Super Eagles reach the final and earning a spot in the Team of the Tournament.

Chiamaka Nnadozie, on the other hand, reaffirmed her dominance in women’s football by winning the Best Goalkeeper award for the second consecutive time. The Paris FC shot-stopper beat Morocco’s Khadija Er-Rmichi and South Africa’s Andile Dlamini to the honor. Nnadozie’s heroics contributed to the Super Falcons being named the Women’s National Team of the Year.

The CAF Awards celebrated outstanding achievements across African football, with other notable winners including Zambia’s Barbara Banda as Women’s Player of the Year and Ronwen Williams of South Africa, who clinched both Men’s Goalkeeper and Interclub Player of the Year awards.
