De Bruyne Joins Napoli After City Exit

Kevin De Bruyne has officially signed with Serie A champions Napoli, marking the end of a decade-long, trophy-laden chapter at Manchester City. The 33-year-old Belgian midfielder completed the move on a free transfer and was unveiled in flamboyant style, with the club posting a digital image of him seated on a throne, declaring, “King Kev is here.”

De Bruyne’s decision to join Napoli reunites him with head coach Antonio Conte and places him back into the UEFA Champions League spotlight. In doing so, he turned down a lucrative offer from Major League Soccer’s Chicago Fire, signaling his intent to remain competitive at the highest level of European football.

The former City playmaker leaves behind a monumental legacy in England. Since arriving from Wolfsburg in 2015, De Bruyne amassed 19 major trophies with Manchester City, including six Premier League titles and the club’s historic 2023 treble, capped by their first-ever Champions League triumph.

An emotional farewell at the Etihad Stadium in May brought closure to his City career. “It’s been an unbelievable ride,” De Bruyne told fans. “Manchester has been my home, and I’m proud to have helped build something that will last beyond me.”

Napoli, looking to strengthen their midfield for the upcoming European campaign, have also signed former Premier League players Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour. De Bruyne’s addition signals the club’s ambition to maintain domestic dominance while becoming a serious contender on the continental stage.

Meanwhile, Manchester City have moved swiftly to fill the void left by their former talisman, securing midfielders Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan and Rayan Cherki from Lyon.
