Kogi Govt Mobilises Ward Appointees to Tackle NIN Registration Gap

In a bid to close the widening gap in National Identification Number (NIN) registration, Kogi State Government has announced plans to mobilise political appointees across all 239 wards to drive a mass enrolment campaign targeting 500,000 residents.

This move comes in response to troubling figures indicating low NIN registration in the state between January and July 2025.

The Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Hon. Sunday Faleke made this known during a meeting with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) in Lokoja.

Hon. Faleke described the current registration rate as unacceptable and attributed the situation to limited awareness and weak mobilisation at the grassroots.

He said the new approach would leverage existing government structures to drive registration in every ward, especially in rural areas.

He further presented the state’s Fiscal Development Plan to the NIMC team, emphasising that accurate data through NIN is central to Kogi’s long-term planning and equitable distribution of resources.

In his remarks, the Kogi State Coordinator of NIMC, Mr. Tagwai Rabiu Garba, welcomed the initiative noting that strategic involvement of local actors was key to improving daily enrolment figures.

Joining the meeting virtually, the North-Central Regional Coordinator of NIMC, Madam Mary Manama said the state already has sufficient registration equipment, capable of capturing at least 40 individuals daily if effectively deployed.
