US Sounds Alarm on Student Visa Misuse by Nigerians‎‎

The United States Mission in Nigeria has issued a strong caution to Nigerian students heading to or already studying in America, warning that any breach of student visa conditions could result in immediate cancellation and long-term travel restrictions.

‎The alert comes as thousands of Nigerian students gear up for the September academic resumption in various US institutions. While many view visa approval as a ticket to academic freedom, the mission stressed that such documents are bound by strict conditions that must be followed without compromise.

‎In its statement on X, the mission cited common breaches that often lead to visa termination, including skipping classes, withdrawing from school, or switching academic programmes without notifying the institution. It warned that such actions not only risk the student’s current status but could also affect eligibility for any future US visas.

‎The mission also underscored that legal troubles in the US such as arrests or criminal charges carry immediate immigration consequences. These range from deportation to permanent bans on re-entry, cutting short both academic and professional aspirations.

‎With an increasing influx of Nigerian students into US universities, the mission’s advisory serves as a preemptive measure against what it described as “avoidable mistakes” that could ruin years of academic planning. It urged students to stay in good standing with their schools and remain law-abiding.

‎The US Mission concluded by advising prospective and continuing students to carefully review all visa guidelines before departure.
