Troops Seize 108kg of Cannabis in Kogi, Arrest Suspected Courier

Troops of the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have seized 108.8 kilogrammes of cannabis and arrested a suspected drug courier along the Kabba-Obajana road in Kogi State.

This was contained in a statement released on Tuesday in Lokoja by the Brigade’s spokesperson, Lt. Hassan Abdullahi.

According to the statement, the operation took place on Monday when troops deployed to the Agbede Response Area conducted a routine stop-and-search on a Toyota Camry with registration number DKA 158 AU, travelling from Ekiti State towards Obajana.

“The vehicle, driven by the suspect, was found with a branded police hat and belt displayed on the dashboard, which raised further suspicion,” Abdullahi said.

A thorough search of the car led to the discovery of 10 sacks of cannabis sativa, weighing 108.8 kg, carefully concealed inside the vehicle.

Preliminary investigations, according to the Army, suggest that large-scale drug movements of this nature often serve as financial lifelines for criminal networks and fuel activities that escalate into banditry across Kogi and neighbouring states.

Abdullahi added that the suspect and the seized exhibits have been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kogi Command, for further investigation and necessary action.

He reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to intensifying operations against drug trafficking and other criminal activities that undermine security in the state, assuring residents of continued efforts to enhance public safety.
