CUSTECH Holds Maiden Convocation, Gets First Chancellor

In a landmark celebration of academic growth and institutional excellence, the Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara, has held its maiden Convocation Ceremony, formally presenting its first set of graduates since the institution was established in 2020.

‎The historic event brought together students, families, academics, traditional rulers, and dignitaries including the Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, who served as Guest of Honour and also performed the installation of the university’s pioneer Chancellor.

‎Vice-Chancellor of the university, Engr. Prof. Abdulrahaman Salawu, described the maiden convocation as a defining moment in CUSTECH’s journey, noting that the institution is releasing a new generation of leaders, innovators, and nation builders into the global space.

‎He expressed appreciation to former Governor of the state, Alhaji Yahaya Bello for assenting to the bill establishing the university in 2020, a step he noted, laid the foundation for the institution’s rapid academic and infrastructural advancement.

‎Prof. Salawu highlighted key achievements recorded under his tenure, including the addition of seven new departments, programmes, and an expanding student population of over 5,000 students.

‎Providing the breakdown of the pioneer graduating class, the Vice-Chancellor announced that a total of 264 students from the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 academic sessions received their degrees, comprising 31 First Class Honours, 138 Second Class Upper Division, 81 Second Class Lower Division and 16 Third Class graduates.

‎He commended the students for their resilience and academic discipline, adding that the absence of any pass degree demonstrates the quality and standards of teaching at CUSTECH.

‎The Vice-Chancellor also announced Ummulkhari Oyiza Sheidu as the Overall Best Graduating Student, having attained an impressive CGPA of 4.89, a feat he described as a reflection of hard work, excellence, and the university’s commitment to grooming outstanding scholars.

‎The ceremony also featured the installation of the university’s pioneer Chancellor, HRH Barr. Anthony Ehizogie Abumere II, by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.

‎In his address, the Chancellor pledged to work diligently to drive innovation, strengthen academic programmes, and support the university’s long-term vision.

‎He urged the graduates to uphold discipline, integrity, and hard work as they step into the next phase of their lives.

‎The university also conferred honourary degrees on distinguished personalities, including the Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the development of the institution.

‎High point of the occasion was the presentation of the new graduates and awards of degrees and prizes for academic excellence as confirmed by the convocation.
