Tinubu’s Aide, U.S. Embassy Deepen Alliance to Tackle Middle Belt Insecurity

The Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Community Engagement, Abiodun Essiet, has met with a delegation from the United States Embassy in Nigeria to strengthen collaboration on peace-building and security across the Middle Belt region.

The engagement, held at her office in Abuja, was led by the U.S. Deputy Political Counselor, Dianna Palequin, who was accompanied by the Embassy’s Human Rights Officer, Dave Young.

Speaking during the meeting, Essiet highlighted the ongoing community engagement initiatives of President Tinubu’s administration—efforts coordinated through her office to promote peace, foster dialogue, and enhance social cohesion in communities grappling with recurring conflict and unrest.

She noted that the U.S. delegation expressed strong interest in understanding the underlying drivers of insecurity in the Middle Belt and exploring avenues to support federal and local interventions aimed at reducing violence and enhancing long-term stability.

Essiet appreciated the Embassy for its consistent support to Nigeria’s peacebuilding efforts, stressing that deeper collaboration with international partners remains vital to addressing persistent security challenges faced by vulnerable communities.

She reaffirmed that the Presidency is committed to strengthening partnerships with both global allies and local stakeholders to advance peace, security, and community resilience across the country.
