Anthony Joshua Returns to Training After Crash That Killed Two Team Members

British heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua has returned to training after surviving a car crash that claimed the lives of two close friends and members of his team.

The former world heavyweight champion, 36, suffered only minor injuries in the accident, which occurred in Nigeria on 29 December.

Joshua was travelling in a vehicle with his strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami, and trainer Latif ‘Latz’ Ayodele when it collided with a stationary truck on a major highway near Lagos. Ghami and Ayodele were both killed in the crash.

Nineteen days later, Joshua shared a video on Snapchat showing himself back in the gym, hitting pads and working out, accompanied by the caption “mental strength therapy”.

The Briton had defeated Jake Paul in Miami on 19 December, just 10 days before the incident, which happened while he was on holiday in Nigeria.

Last week, Joshua paid tribute to Ghami and Ayodele in an emotional Instagram post.

“I didn’t even realise how special they were,” he wrote. “We’d walk together, joke together, not even knowing God had placed great men beside me.

“It’s extremely tough for me, but I know it’s even harder for their parents.”
