FG Hails Funke Akindele on Record-Breaking Milestone

The Federal Government has congratulated Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele on the record-breaking performance of her latest movie, Behind the Scenes, at the box office.

In a statement shared on its X handle on Monday, the National Orientation Agency described the feat as a significant boost for Nigeria’s creative industry and evidence of the growing global appeal of Nigerian Story telling.

According to the agency, “Behind the Scenes has officially crossed N2.1 billion at the Nigerian box office, making history as the first Nollywood film ever to hit the N2 billion threshold.

It added that the film also recorded international success, earning more than $111,256 in Canada and an impressive $190,249 across North America.

“From Lagos to Toronto, from cinemas in Abuja to theatres overseas — this movie had everyone locked in.”

The NOA noted that the movie’s performance also highlighted Akindele’s feat as the first filmmaker to rank number one at the African box office for three consecutive years.

The agency said the success of Behind the Scenes demonstrates the expanding reach of Nigeria’s film industry and reinforces Nollywood growing global influence, describing the achievement as a proud moment for the country’s cultural and creative sectors.

The government’s commendation comes amid widespread praise for the 2025 release, which has not only dominated local markets but also demonstrated Nollywood’s international presence
