Germany Snatch Victory as Undav’s Late Goal Breaks Ghana Hearts

Deniz Undav made a decisive impact off the bench, netting a late winner as Germany secured a narrow victory over Ghana in an international friendly in Stuttgart.

Introduced at half-time by head coach Julian Nagelsmann, Undav capitalized on a clever assist from Leroy Sané, slotting the ball past Ghana goalkeeper Benjamin Asare in the 88th minute.

The Stuttgart striker, formerly of Brighton, has been in fine form this season with 18 Bundesliga goals only Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane has scored more. This match marked his first appearance for Germany since June 2025.

Ghana, four-time Africa Cup of Nations champions who failed to qualify for the 2025 edition, came under early pressure. Germany nearly took the lead in the sixth minute when Florian Wirtz’s free-kick struck the woodwork.

Despite dominating, Germany had to wait until first-half stoppage time to break the deadlock. Referee Stuart Attwell awarded a penalty after Angelo Stiller’s cross struck Jonas Adjetey’s arm. Kai Havertz calmly converted, sending Asare the wrong way.

Germany continued to threaten after the break, with Nick Woltemade hitting the crossbar with a header. However, Ghana found an equalizer in the 70th minute through Leicester City winger Abdul Fatawu.

Undav’s late goal ultimately sealed back-to-back victories for Germany, following their 4-3 win over Switzerland. Ghana, meanwhile, were left to reflect on another setback after their heavy 5-1 loss to Austria.
