Tinubu, Shettima Urge Nigerians to Embrace Unity and Sacrifice During Eid-el-Kabir

President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians to promote unity, tolerance and peaceful coexistence as Muslims across the country celebrate Eid-el-Kabir.

Speaking after observing Eid prayers at Dodan Barracks in Lagos, President Tinubu urged citizens to avoid ethnic and religious discrimination while showing love and generosity to one another. He described Eid-el-Kabir as a season that teaches obedience, sacrifice and compassion, following the example of Prophet Ibrahim.

The President stressed the importance of respecting the rule of law and maintaining peace, adding that violence and criminality have no place in any religion. He also encouraged Nigerians to support the less privileged during the festive period.

Among dignitaries present at the Eid prayers were Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, former governor Babatunde Fashola, the Oba of Lagos Rilwan Akiolu and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu.

Vice President Kashim Shettima also appealed to Nigerians to strengthen unity and peaceful coexistence, especially ahead of the 2027 elections. In his Eid message, Shettima warned against divisive statements capable of threatening national stability and urged political leaders to act responsibly.

According to him, the Federal Government is working with state governments to reduce economic hardship through ongoing reforms and targeted interventions aimed at improving citizens’ welfare.

The Christian Association of Nigeria also called on Nigerians not to allow hardship and frustration create divisions along religious or ethnic lines. CAN President Archbishop Daniel Okoh said citizens now expect practical leadership and visible efforts to ease suffering across the country.

He noted that many Nigerians are struggling with rising living costs, insecurity and economic pressure, while urging leaders to rebuild public trust through action rather than promises.

Meanwhile, the Chief Missioner of Nasrul-Lahi-l-Fatih Society, Abdul-Azeez Onike, urged the government to ensure economic improvements are reflected in the daily lives of citizens through better food access and improved income opportunities.

He encouraged Nigerians to remain hopeful and continue praying for the country’s progress and stability.
