Kane Fires England Past New Zealand in World Cup Warm-Up

England manager Thomas Tuchel continued preparations for the World Cup with a narrow victory over New Zealand in Tampa.

Tuchel used the friendly to experiment with his squad, fielding completely different teams in each half of the encounter.

Captain Harry Kane once again delivered for England, heading home his 79th international goal in 113 appearances just before half-time.

The German coach made sweeping substitutions after the break as he assessed the depth and readiness of his squad ahead of the tournament.

England’s World Cup campaign begins against Croatia in Dallas on 17 June, with Tuchel keen to give most of his players valuable minutes before the competition starts.

Liverpool youngster Rio Ngumoha was handed his senior debut despite not being part of the final 26-man World Cup squad, becoming the fifth-youngest player to represent England.

Played in intense heat, the low-tempo contest also served as an important acclimatisation exercise before England take on Costa Rica in their final pre-World Cup friendly in Orlando on Wednesday.
