The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the rescue of Mrs. Busayo Adelabu-John Paul and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, who were kidnapped on June 3 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, revealed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday.
According to him, the victims were rescued around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday during a coordinated operation carried out by operatives of the Force Intelligence Department’s Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) in Ibadan.
Placid explained that the operation followed sustained intelligence gathering, surveillance, and tactical efforts, which helped security operatives trace the movements of the kidnappers and engage them in a confrontation.
He stated that two suspected kidnappers were fatally wounded during the encounter, while two rifles were recovered from the scene.
“The victims were rescued unharmed and are currently receiving medical attention and necessary support in safe custody,” he said.
The police spokesperson added that the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, praised the bravery, professionalism, and dedication of the FID-IRT operatives and other officers involved in the operation.
He noted that their commitment played a major role in ensuring the safe rescue of the victims.
Placid further disclosed that security agencies have intensified efforts to apprehend other members of the kidnapping gang believed to have escaped with gunshot wounds.
“Operations are ongoing to track down and arrest all those involved and ensure they face justice. The Nigeria Police Force appreciates the support, cooperation, and patience of the public throughout the operation.
“We remain committed to fighting violent crimes, protecting lives and property, and ensuring the safety of all citizens,” he added.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Mrs. Adelabu-John Paul, who is the younger sister of the immediate past Minister of Power, was abducted alongside her twin sons in the early hours of June 3 while taking the children to school in Ibadan.
The gunmen reportedly intercepted their vehicle around the Elewura area of Challenge and forcefully whisked them away.
The incident sparked widespread concern within the family and political circles in Oyo State due to Chief Adelabu’s status as a former minister and APC governorship aspirant.
