Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has congratulated the immediate past Governor of the state, Yahaya Bello, on his birthday, describing him as a fearless reformer, visionary leader and pathfinder whose leadership laid the foundation for many of the gains being recorded in Kogi State today.
In a goodwill message, Governor Ododo commended Bello’s contributions to the development of the state, noting that his legacy extends beyond physical infrastructure and policy reforms to the lives he transformed through leadership, mentorship and empowerment.
The Governor said Bello demonstrated uncommon courage in taking difficult decisions aimed at repositioning the state for long-term growth, often in the face of criticism and opposition.
According to him, many of the reforms initiated during Bello’s administration have continued to yield positive results, affirming the foresight and commitment that defined his years in office.
“Alhaji Yahaya Bello chose service over convenience, sacrifice over comfort and vision over popularity. Many of the initiatives that are benefiting our state today were conceived and implemented at a time they attracted intense opposition. Today, the wisdom behind those decisions is becoming clearer, and Kogi State is better for them,” he said.
Governor Ododo also praised the former governor’s commitment to raising a new generation of leaders, describing him as a mentor whose belief in people created opportunities for many to serve and excel in leadership positions.
He noted that Bello’s ability to identify and nurture talent remains one of his most enduring legacies, adding that countless individuals, including himself, have benefited from his guidance and confidence in their potential.
The Governor said Bello’s birthday provides an opportunity to celebrate a life of impact, resilience and service, as well as a legacy that continues to inspire many within and beyond Kogi State.
He prayed for Allah’s continued blessings upon the former governor, asking for good health, wisdom and strength for greater service to humanity.
“Today, we celebrate a fearless reformer, an exceptional leader, a mentor to many and a pathfinder whose footprints are firmly etched in the sands of our history. We celebrate a man whose life has become a blessing to many and whose contributions to the development of Kogi State will remain indelible. May Almighty Allah continue to bless and preserve him for greater service to humanity,” Governor Ododo stated.
