Human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) has alleged that police operatives stormed the Ogbomoso, Oyo State residence of the family of Prince Adeyemi Adeniyi, the central figure at the heart of the Presidential Fiscal and Infrastructure Projects Council (PFIPC) scandal, and arrested his elderly father on Monday.
According to Falana, officers arrived at the residence described as Plot 3, Adeniyi Dynasty, behind Technical College, Road Safety Area, Ogbomoso and took away Adeniyi’s father along with a family friend who happened to be visiting at the time.
Eyewitnesses in the neighbourhood corroborated the account, with one resident describing a heavy police presence involving four vehicles, alleging officers harassed the family before taking the elderly man away without allowing neighbours to intervene
Another neighbour said the father was taken away along with a visitor, while Adeniyi’s mother was left in shock and had to be moved by concerned locals.
Falana condemned the arrest as unjustified, questioning why authorities would target the father of a man who has consistently shown up in court and promised to continue doing so.
Falana argued there was no legal basis for what he described as a “substituted arrest,” stressing that his client had cooperated with the judicial process.
The development marks the latest twist in the PFIPC saga, in which Adeniyi is facing an eight-count charge of forgery, impersonation and related offences over his role as the self-proclaimed director-general of a council the Presidency has repeatedly disowned as fictitious.
As of the time of the reports, the Nigeria Police Force had not issued an official statement confirming or explaining the operation.
