The Kogi State Government has temporarily suspended all mining activities in Ankpa Local Government Area as part of ongoing efforts to promote sustainable mining practices and safety of the environment.
The suspension, announced by the Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources is to facilitate a rehabilitation exercise being carried out in collaboration with the Mining Association, Ankpa Local Government, and other relevant stakeholders.
The Ministry said the directive takes immediate effect and applies to all miners, mining associations, operators and host communities within the Ankpa mining cluster.
The Ministry also noted that the temporary suspension forms part of efforts by the Kogi State Government under Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo to strengthen environmental protection, promote responsible mineral exploitation and ensure sustainable development of the state’s mining sector.
The government urged all affected stakeholders to comply fully with the suspension until further notice, assuring that an official announcement would be made once the rehabilitation exercise is completed and mining activities are cleared to resume.
