Dangote Cement Plc has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable business practices, environmental responsibility, and long-term growth, saying sustainability remains at the core of its operations across its ten African markets.
The company said its sustainability strategy is built around five key priorities: reducing environmental impact, improving energy efficiency, promoting diversity and inclusion, supporting host communities, and creating lasting value for stakeholders.
As part of its decarbonisation efforts, Dangote Cement is expanding its green logistics programme with the acquisition of 1,500 additional compressed natural gas (CNG) trucks. The company said the initiative will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve operational efficiency, and lessen reliance on diesel-powered transportation.
The cement manufacturer also reported progress in its environmental performance, announcing that it had earned an upgraded “B” rating from the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) in recognition of its climate and water management initiatives. It added that ongoing energy optimisation measures and a favourable energy mix are helping lower production costs while reducing its carbon footprint.
Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Cement Plc, Arvind Pathak, said sustainability is fully integrated into the company’s operations and expansion strategy across Africa.
According to him, the company remains committed to reducing its environmental footprint through cleaner energy sources, greater operational efficiency, and innovative logistics solutions, including its expanding CNG-powered fleet. He noted that the goal is to create long-term value for shareholders while contributing to a more sustainable and resilient future for the continent.
Pathak added that while cement remains vital to Africa’s infrastructure and economic development, the company’s responsibility extends beyond production to reducing emissions, conserving natural resources, protecting the environment, and improving the wellbeing of host communities. He described sustainability as a key driver of Dangote Cement’s long-term growth strategy.
Beyond environmental initiatives, the company said it continues to strengthen corporate governance and social responsibility. It noted that its Board comprises 28 per cent female representation and directors from seven different nationalities, reflecting its commitment to diversity, inclusion, and global governance standards.
Dangote Cement also said its sustainability initiatives are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in the areas of responsible industrialisation, climate action, economic growth, and community development.
The company stated that its sustainability agenda supports a resilient business model that creates shared value for investors, employees, customers, host communities, and governments across Africa. It added that it remains focused on transforming the continent’s industrial landscape while advancing its ambition of becoming one of the world’s most sustainable cement manufacturers.
Among the company’s recent sustainability milestones are the upgrade of its CDP climate and water management rating to “B”, the acquisition of 1,500 additional CNG trucks to support low-carbon transportation, continued investments in energy efficiency, stronger gender diversity on its Board, and sustained alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
