The Kogi State Government has approved a one hundred and fifty million naira campaign signage fee for presidential candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, announced this in Lokoja after a meeting with operators in the signage and advertising sub-sector.
Under the new fee structure, senatorial candidates shall pay fifty million naira, House of Representatives candidates are to pay thirty million naira, while State House of Assembly candidates will pay five million naira.
For the October 2026 local government elections, chairmanship candidates will pay two million naira, while councillorship candidates will pay three hundred thousand naira.
Fanwo said the fees are aimed at regulating political advertising, controlling the proliferation of campaign materials and generating revenue for the development of the state.
He warned that political parties and candidates who display campaign materials without paying the prescribed fees and obtaining the necessary approvals will face sanctions and prosecution.
The Commissioner stressed that the regulations apply to all political parties, including the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC with no exemptions.
Meanwhile, the General Manager of the Kogi State Signage and Advertisement Agency, KOSSAA, Richard Osaseyi, said full enforcement of the regulations will begin next week.
He urged political parties, candidates and outdoor advertising operators to register with the agency and secure the required approvals before displaying campaign materials.
