Manchester United were held to a 2-2 draw by Everton on Sunday after the home side scored a late equaliser to deny United all three points.
The first half ended without a goal, but the game became more exciting after the break as both teams pushed forward in search of the lead.
Manchester United eventually broke the deadlock through Bryan Mbeumo, who put the visitors ahead with a well-taken finish.
Everton responded strongly and levelled the match through Tyrique George, giving the home side hope of completing a comeback.
United regained the lead late in the game when Benjamin Sesko headed the ball into the net in the 88th minute. The goal appeared to have secured victory for Michael Carrick’s side.
However, Everton refused to give up. In the sixth minute of added time, substitute Ainsley Maitland-Niles scored a spectacular long-range goal to make it 2-2.
The late goal left United frustrated after they had twice taken the lead, while Everton celebrated an important point in front of their home supporters.
The draw means United have now dropped points in two of their opening three Premier League matches. Carrick’s team will need to improve defensively as they prepare for their next fixtures.
United will now turn their attention to their Champions League return before facing local rivals Manchester City in their next major Premier League test.
