The Governing Council of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has approved the appointment of Dr. Godwin Ojodomo Onamah as the institution’s new Deputy Rector.
The appointment was disclosed in an official statement issued on Tuesday in Lokoja by the Acting Coordinator of the Directorate of Public Relations and Protocols, John Amos Onimisi.
According to the statement, the approval was conveyed by the Chairman of the Governing Council, Barrister Sanni Shaibu, pending formal ratification at the council’s next sitting.
Dr. Onamah brings nearly three decades of experience in teaching, academic administration, institutional management and public service to his new role.
He holds a Ph.D. in Public Administration and Local Government Administration, an M.Sc. in Public Administration and a B.A. (Hons) in Public Administration. He joined Kogi State Polytechnic in 1996 as a Lecturer III and rose through the ranks to become a Chief Lecturer in 2010.
He has also obtained professional certifications in IT Management, Digital Transformation, Cyber Security and Emerging Technologies, reflecting his interest in technology-driven reforms in tertiary education.
Over the years, Dr. Onamah has held several administrative positions within the institution, including Head of the Department of Public Administration, Dean of the Directorate of Students Services, Director of the Academic Planning Unit, Member of the Governing Council representing the Academic Board, and Director of Advancement, Support and Linkages.
In these capacities, he served on and chaired several committees dealing with academic accreditation, curriculum development, institutional restructuring, examination security and strategic planning.
Beyond the polytechnic, Dr. Onamah served as Kogi State Commissioner for Works from 2014 to 2016, after earlier service with the Kogi State Civil Service Commission.
He is a Fellow of the Institute of Industrial Administration of Nigeria, the Institute of Policy Management Development and the Chartered Institute of Public Administration of Nigeria. He is also a member of the Nigerian Political Science Association and the Nigerian Institute of Management and has received several institutional and community honours.
The management expressed confidence that Dr. Onamah’s wealth of experience in higher education, public administration and institutional governance would contribute significantly to the strategic development and enhancement of academic standards at Kogi State Polytechnic.
