The Chief Judge of Kogi State, Justice Josiah Majebi, has called on leaders to treat civil servants with respect and fairness, describing them as custodians of government records and key players in ensuring accountability in public administration.
Justice Majebi made the call while delivering a goodwill message at the 2026 Kogi State Civil Service Award Night held at the Government House, Lokoja.
The Chief Judge, who commended the Head of Service, Hajia Falilat Yusuf Musa, for recognising outstanding civil servants, said the contributions of workers to the effective running of government should not be overlooked.
Drawing from his experience on the bench, Justice Majebi said civil servants play an important role in public accountability, recalling cases where public officers were prosecuted after leaving office, with civil servants serving as principal witnesses.
He urged leaders to recognise the temporary nature of public office and use their positions to mentor and develop those working under them, rather than create an atmosphere of fear or hostility.
The Chief Judge also encouraged civil servants to remain committed to their duties, respect constituted authority and maintain professionalism, even when some of their expectations are not immediately met.
He appealed to workers to remain patient and understanding, stressing that the government has several responsibilities and that some issues may require time to resolve.
