The Kogi State Ministry of Commerce and Industry has inspected the ongoing Lokoja Ultra-Modern Market project to assess construction progress and ensure that drainage, tiling, finishing works and warehouse facilities meet the required quality standards.
The inspection was led by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Hajiya Musa-Amana Sualihat, and involved officials from relevant ministries and other stakeholders.
Located along the Zone 8–Crusher Road axis of Lokoja, the market is being developed into a modern commercial centre designed to provide an organised trading environment for businesses, traders and consumers.
During the inspection, the team assessed the progress and quality of work across different sections of the facility, identifying areas requiring attention before the project’s completion.
Particular attention was given to the drainage system to ensure effective water management and prevent potential problems that could affect the market’s durability and functionality.
The team also examined the tiling and finishing works, emphasising the need for quality materials and proper execution in line with the required standards.
The warehouse facilities were equally inspected to determine their suitability for meeting the storage and operational needs of businesses and traders expected to use the market.
The Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Works, Engr. Abdulsalam M. Sagir, participated in the technical inspection, while the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Abanika Taiye, represented his ministry.
The participation of officials from the different ministries underscored the importance of inter-ministerial collaboration in ensuring that the project meets the required infrastructure standards and achieves its commercial objectives.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry views the project as a significant investment that could boost commercial activities and stimulate economic growth in Kogi State.
Upon completion, the market is expected to provide an organised trading environment, accommodate businesses and strengthen commercial activities in Lokoja and its environs.
Its location along the Zone 8–Crusher Road corridor is also expected to improve accessibility for traders and businesses within and outside the state.
The project aligns with the state government’s broader efforts to develop infrastructure and create a conducive environment for businesses to thrive.
The inspection also provided an opportunity for government officials and the project team to identify outstanding issues and recommend necessary adjustments to ensure quality delivery.
Sualihat’s participation in the exercise reflects the ministry’s commitment to ensuring that the facility becomes a functional commercial hub capable of supporting trade, creating economic opportunities and strengthening commerce across the state.
Stakeholders are expected to sustain monitoring efforts as construction progresses to ensure that outstanding works are completed and the necessary facilities are provided for efficient operation.
When completed, the Lokoja Ultra-Modern Market is expected to serve as a major centre for organised commerce and further strengthen Lokoja’s position as a commercial hub in Kogi State.
