The Federal Government is set to launch a National Database of Contractors, Consultants and Service Providers (NDCCSP) to improve the screening, classification and management of companies seeking government contracts.
The Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), Dr Adebowale Adedokun, disclosed this in Abuja during a strategic engagement with professional bodies on public procurement reforms.
Adedokun said the database would classify contractors based on their technical competence, areas of specialisation, financial capacity and past performance to ensure they meet the requirements for specific government contracts.
He explained that the platform would provide Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) with centralised access to contractors’ certifications, financial records, performance history and compliance status.
According to the BPP, the initiative would address inefficiencies associated with the previous system, where companies with varying levels of experience and capacity competed for contracts without structured categorisation.
The bureau said the system would simplify procurement evaluations, improve credential verification and enable government agencies to identify qualified contractors more efficiently.
The digital platform is also expected to support electronic tender publication and submission, contract management and stakeholder dashboards, while reducing paperwork and improving transparency, efficiency and value for money.
The BPP said the initiative aligns with Section 6(1) of the Public Procurement Act 2007, which empowers the bureau to maintain a national database of federal contractors and service providers and establish classification criteria for registered companies.
