The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all 21 chairmanship and 239 councillorship seats contested in the Kogi State local government elections.

The Chairman of the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC), Mamman Eri, announced the results at a press conference at the Commission’s headquarters in Lokoja on Saturday.

Eri said the elections were conducted across the 21 local government areas, 239 electoral wards and 3,508 polling units in the state, describing the exercise as peaceful, free, fair and credible.

According to him, the collation of results from all 21 local government areas had been completed, with the APC emerging victorious in every chairmanship and councillorship positions.

“Having fulfilled all requirements of the law and having scored the highest number of valid votes cast, the candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are hereby declared winners and returned elected as Chairmen of the 21 Local Government Areas and Councillors of the 239 Wards of Kogi State,” the KOSIEC chairman declared.

He commended political parties, security agencies, accredited observers, journalists, traditional rulers, civil society organisations and voters for their cooperation and peaceful conduct before, during and after the election.

The KOSIEC chairman said the Commission had conducted voter education programmes and stakeholder engagements while providing a level playing field for the 13 political parties cleared to participate in the election.

He added that no petition challenging the process had been received before or during the exercise.

He further announced that Certificates of Return would be issued to the elected chairmen and councillors on a date to be communicated by the Commission.

Eri also commended Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for providing the enabling environment and logistical support for the election, as well as allowing the Commission to discharge its mandate without interference.

The election brought the tenure of the outgoing chairmen and councillors, who were sworn in on October 23, 2024, to a close.

Reacting to the outcome, APC stakeholders in the state attributed the party’s performance to public confidence in the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
