Kogi State has emerged third among 35 states in revenue performance in the 2026 State of States report released by BudgIT, recording a score of 60.86 under Pillar A of the assessment.

The ranking according to BudgIT 2026 places Kogi behind Lagos and Bauchi states, m ahead of Imo, recognising its growing capacity to generate revenue internally based on fiscal performance in 2025.

“The achievement comes as the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) rose to approximately ₦43.94 billion in 2025, up from ₦27.73 billion recorded in 2024, according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics,

“Over the past decade, Kogi’s annual IGR has grown from approximately ₦600 million to ₦43.9 billion, reflecting significant improvements in the state’s revenue generation capacity”.

Reacting to the report, the Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, Asiwaju Asiru Idris, described the ranking as an encouraging recognition of the reforms being implemented by the state government under Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.

He said the administration was strengthening the processes of identifying revenue sources, collection and management, with emphasis on efficiency, reduction of leakages, fair expansion of the revenue base and deployment of technology for greater transparency.

According to him, the objective is to build a reliable revenue system that will increase government’s capacity to deliver services and invest in development without imposing undue financial pressure on the people and businesses operating in the state.
