Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has reinforced Kogi’s position as Nigeria’s gateway for safe and efficient road transportation with the donation of 10 electric patrol motorcycles to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), describing road safety as a strategic national imperative.
Governor Ododo stated this while receiving the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, and his delegation at the Government House in Lokoja, shortly after his investiture as the Grand Patron of the Special Marshals of the Corps.
The Governor commended the FRSC for its professionalism, dedication and sustained partnership with the Kogi State Government in promoting safer highways and reducing road crashes across the country.
Governor Ododo noted that Kogi’s strategic position as the gateway linking Northern and Southern Nigeria places enormous pressure on its road network, but expressed satisfaction that the diligence and professionalism of the FRSC have continued to ease traffic congestion and improve the flow of vehicular movement across the state.
The Governor who presented 10 electric motorcycles to the Kogi State Command of the Road Safety also announced the elevation of the Senior Special Assistant on Road Safety Matters, Yusuf Suberu, to the position of a Special Adviser in recognition of his dedication to advancing road safety initiatives and strengthening collaboration between the state government and the Federal Road Safety Corps.
Governor Ododo assured the Corps Marshal that requests presented by the FRSC would receive favourable consideration as part of the state’s continued partnership with the agency.
Governor Ododo dedicated his investiture as Grand Patron of the Special Marshals of the FRSC to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose leadership, he said, continues to inspire collective efforts toward building a safer and more prosperous Nigeria.
Earlier, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, appealed to the Kogi State Government to revive motor parks across the state to improve traffic management and road safety.
He was informed that the initiative is already being implemented by the state government and is nearing completion.
The Corps Marshal described the donation of the electric patrol motorcycles as a significant contribution that would strengthen the operational capacity of the FRSC in serving not only Kogi State but road users across Nigeria.
He commended Governor Ododo for his inclusive and result-oriented leadership, particularly his commitment to protecting lives and property as well as prioritising the welfare of residents and travellers.
