British Airways and Norwegian Air Shuttle have turned the excitement surrounding the 2026 FIFA World Cup into a light-hearted social media contest by agreeing to temporarily swap their Instagram profile logos depending on the outcome of England’s quarter-final clash with Norway.
The friendly exchange began on July 8 when Norwegian Air challenged the British carrier to a playful wager on Instagram. The airline proposed that whichever nation lost the highly anticipated fixture would have its airline replace its Instagram profile logo with that of the rival carrier for 24 hours.
“Ready to risk your logo?” Norwegian Air asked before adding, “If Norway wins, you have to switch to our logo on Instagram on Sunday (one day). And vice versa. Deal?”
British Airways responded confidently, saying, “Don’t make bets you can’t win.”
The online banter continued as Norwegian Air teased its counterpart, asking, “Does this mean you’re too scared?”
British Airways fired back with a football-inspired pun, replying, “Scared? Nor-way, mate.”
Ahead of the quarter-final, the British airline also shared a video featuring England’s popular football slogan, “It’s coming home,” further building anticipation around the encounter.
Norwegian Air later reminded British Airways of the challenge, urging the airline to confirm whether it would accept the bet. After keeping followers in suspense, British Airways officially agreed to the proposal.
“Hey there. Challenge accepted! Just don’t be surprised if we take the win at cruising altitude,” the airline posted.
On July 10, Norwegian Air confirmed that the wager had been finalised, responding, “Love the confidence. Check your DMs for the logo swap,” before sharing a meme captioned, “It’s on.”
Under the agreement, the airline representing the losing nation will temporarily replace its Instagram profile logo with that of the winning carrier for one day following the match.
The light-hearted challenge quickly attracted widespread attention from football fans and social media users, with many eagerly anticipating both the result of the quarter-final and the promised logo swap.
Several international airlines also joined the conversation with humorous remarks. Malaysia Airlines commented, “We’ll be watching with our satay in one hand and signature drink in the other,” while Austrian Airlines wrote, “You two fight over the logo. We’ll bring the Schnitzel.” SWISS also joined the banter, joking, “No time for popcorn, we have to prepare for @leomessi.”
