NFF Under Pressure as NSC Pushes for Reorganisation of Nigerian Football

The leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is reportedly facing increasing pressure from the National Sports Commission (NSC) over concerns about the administration and overall performance of Nigerian football.

According to reports, the NFF leadership has allegedly been given 24 hours to step aside. However, the claim has not been independently confirmed by the NSC.

The development comes amid growing criticism following the Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Super Falcons have also suffered a setback after missing out on qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The disappointing results have heightened calls for a review of the leadership and management of Nigerian football, with stakeholders questioning the direction of the federation.

The NFF has also faced allegations of maladministration, financial mismanagement and poor decision-making, prompting calls for increased transparency and accountability within the federation.

The reported pressure follows the NSC’s cancellation of the NFF electoral congress, which was scheduled for September 27 in Lafia, Nasarawa State.

The cancellation is expected to pave the way for a broader reorganisation of the federation, with the NSC reportedly preparing to appoint a “normalisation committee” to oversee the affairs of Nigerian football for an initial three-month period.
