The Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has called for stronger collaboration between state governments and the Bureau to improve transportation safety and strengthen accident-prevention measures across the country.

The Director-General of the NSIB, Captain Alex Badeh Jnr, made the call during a courtesy visit by the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Adamawa State, Tijjani Ahmed Galadima, and his running mate, Adamu Kamale, to the Bureau’s headquarters in Abuja.

Badeh said effective transportation safety requires cooperation among the NSIB, state governments, transport operators, emergency-response agencies and other relevant stakeholders.

He explained that the Bureau’s responsibilities go beyond investigating accidents after they occur, noting that findings from investigations are intended to identify safety deficiencies and provide practical recommendations to prevent similar incidents in the future.

According to him, safety recommendations issued by the Bureau are designed to help regulators, operators and other stakeholders improve their systems and address identified weaknesses.

The NSIB boss said the Bureau’s engagement with Adamawa State reflects its commitment to strengthening safety investigation and accident-prevention mechanisms at both federal and state levels.

He stressed that lessons from previous accidents must be translated into preventive measures capable of protecting lives and property.

Earlier, Galadima commended the NSIB for its contributions to transportation safety and its interventions in Adamawa State.

He said the delegation visited the Bureau to appreciate its leadership and acknowledge its efforts to improve transportation safety through evidence-based investigations and engagement with stakeholders.

The delegation also toured the NSIB’s laboratory and training facilities, where they were briefed on the Bureau’s technical capabilities and the importance of specialised training for safety investigators.

Galadima noted that effective transportation safety is essential to economic development, mobility and the protection of lives and property.

The NSIB has in recent months continued to strengthen partnerships with stakeholders across Nigeria’s transportation sector as part of efforts to improve the implementation of safety recommendations and prevent accidents.
