Rodrigo Muniz ended a goal drought of more than a year as Fulham comfortably defeated AFC Wimbledon to book a Carabao Cup third-round meeting with London rivals West Ham.

Emile Smith Rowe opened the scoring for the Cottagers before Muniz doubled their advantage with his first goal in over 12 months. Summer signing Gonzalo Garcia completed the scoring in stoppage time as Fulham secured their first victory under new manager Alvaro Arbeloa.

Fulham made 10 changes to the team that lost to Chelsea in the Premier League on Monday, but they still proved too strong for their League One opponents, who are yet to record a victory inside 90 minutes this season.

Smith Rowe had earlier missed an opportunity after the ball fell to him inside the penalty area, but he made no mistake in the 37th minute. Kenny Tete delivered a deep cross that Ryan Sessegnon redirected into the midfielder’s path, allowing Smith Rowe to head Fulham into the lead. Sessegnon’s brother, Steven, was part of the Wimbledon side.

Muniz extended Fulham’s lead before half-time, rising above the defence to meet another cross from Tete and head the ball home. The goal marked his first since the opening weekend of the previous season.

Fulham introduced 18-year-old Macaulay Zepa at half-time for his first-team debut. The youngster immediately made an impact, delivering a dangerous ball towards the far post, although Muniz’s ambitious overhead kick sailed over the crossbar.

Zepa continued to impress and later came close himself, firing narrowly wide during an energetic debut.

Fulham added a third in stoppage time when Garcia, who joined from Real Madrid during the summer, raced through after receiving a pass from Zepa before rounding Wimbledon goalkeeper Nathan Bishop and finishing into an empty net.

Fulham will now host Championship side West Ham in the third round after the Hammers defeated Southampton on Tuesday.
