Ferran Torres marked his Champions League debut for Paris Saint-Germain with a hat-trick as the French champions began their title defence with a commanding victory over Slovan Bratislava.

Torres, who joined PSG from Barcelona during the summer, made an immediate impact on his European debut, scoring three times after Ousmane Dembele had given the hosts a strong first-half advantage.

Dembele opened the scoring in the 17th minute, calmly finishing the rebound after Nuno Mendes’ powerful effort struck the post.

The Ballon d’Or winner doubled PSG’s advantage six minutes later when he headed in Dro Fernandez’s deflected cross after Slovan were caught attempting to play out from the back.

Dembele then turned provider, delivering a dangerous cross into the six-yard box for Torres to tap home at the near post and make it 3-0.

Torres struck again just two minutes after the restart, producing a brilliant finish following a clever run and lay-off from Maghnes Akliouche.

The Spanish forward completed his hat-trick when he converted Dembele’s corner inside a crowded penalty area to put PSG firmly in control.

Slovan, managed by former Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure, pulled one goal back through Suleiman Camara, who moved into the box before cutting onto his right foot and firing into the top corner.

Fabian Ruiz restored PSG’s four-goal advantage late on, drilling a composed finish into the far corner to complete a convincing victory.

The emphatic European result will come as a major boost for PSG, who have endured a difficult start to their Ligue 1 campaign, with two draws and a defeat leaving them 13th in the table.

However, their dominant Champions League performance has offered an early reminder of their quality and could strengthen hopes of becoming the first club to win the competition three consecutive times.
