Brentford produced a stunning second-half performance to beat Chelsea 3-0 in Friday’s Premier League clash at the Gtech Community Stadium.
The two sides played out a goalless first half, with Chelsea showing attacking intent early on but failing to convert their opportunities. Pedro Neto forced a save from Caoimhin Kelleher, while Cole Palmer also came close as the visitors searched for an opening.
Brentford eventually broke the deadlock in the 61st minute when Jaidon Anthony headed home from close range. Mikkel Damsgaard’s corner was nodded back across the six-yard area by Jannik Schuster, allowing Anthony to finish unmarked.
Chelsea pushed forward in search of an equaliser but were punished again on the counter in the 83rd minute. Kevin Schade’s effort was saved by Emiliano Martinez, but Igor Thiago reacted quickest to the rebound and fired Brentford into a 2-0 lead.
The hosts completed the rout in stoppage time when Fabio Carvalho converted Schade’s low cross in the 94th minute to seal a memorable victory.
The result marked Brentford’s first home Premier League win over Chelsea since 1938 and kept Keith Andrews’ side unbeaten in the league this season.
For Chelsea, the defeat extended their winless run to three Premier League matches. Xabi Alonso’s side also continued their defensive struggles, having conceded 12 goals in their opening five league games.
Brentford’s victory lifted them to third place on nine points, while Chelsea remained seventh on seven points after five matches.
