The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has restored its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) and called on tertiary institutions across Nigeria to speed up admissions for the 2026/2027 academic session.

JAMB apologised for the inconvenience caused by the temporary disruption and thanked candidates, institutions and other stakeholders for their patience and understanding.

The board further urged universities, polytechnics and colleges of education to resume processing candidates on the platform without delay, so that qualified applicants are not left stranded as the admission window narrows.

The appeal comes with deadlines already in place. Federal and state universities are expected to complete admissions by October 31, 2026, private universities and other private tertiary institutions by November 30, and federal and state polytechnics by December 31.

JAMB has also repeatedly warned schools against admitting candidates outside CAPS. Its policy documents note that it has issued formal queries to affected institutions and applied sanctions where such breaches were found.

Candidates are advised to monitor their CAPS profiles closely and act quickly on any offers. Under this year’s rules, admitted students have four weeks to accept an offer, or it may be withdrawn.

According to the board, Institutions can also now use a CAPS feature to send admission notifications directly to candidates by SMS.
