President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Nigeria after a four-week working vacation in Europe, dismissing concerns about his health and preparing to resume political engagements ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Tinubu arrived at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos at about 6:22 p.m. on Tuesday, September 29, after concluding his stay in London and Paris.
Speaking to journalists shortly after his arrival, the President rejected concerns about his health, saying there was nothing wrong with him.
“Rumour will always be emanating from politics, but the facts remain: I’m here. Healthy, sound, and ready to go,” Tinubu said.
The President departed Nigeria on August 30 for what was initially described by the Presidency as a three-week working vacation. He spent about a week in London before travelling to Paris, where he held several engagements, including a private dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron and meetings with business leaders.
His extended absence from the country had generated public discussion and political controversy, including questions over his health and the length of his stay abroad. Tinubu’s return has now brought the vacation to an end.
According to the Presidency, the President chose to return through Lagos to honour the memory of the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola. He is expected to attend the premiere of a film on Abiola at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre on October 1, Nigeria’s Independence Day.
While in Lagos, Tinubu is also expected to hold strategic meetings with political leaders and associates as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum. He is expected to return to Abuja after completing the engagements.
The President’s return comes amid increasing political activity ahead of the 2027 general elections, with various political actors already beginning mobilisation and campaign-related activities.
