Senator representing Kogi West, Sunday Karimi, has commenced a free shuttle bus service in Lokoja, the Capital of Kogi State, to reduce transportation costs for residents.
The initiative, named ‘the Karimi Cares Free Bus Service’, commenced on Wednesday, with the initial route covering the Army Barracks, Lokoja New Market and Nataco Junction corridor.
The service is expected to benefit commuters, including civil servants, students, traders and other residents who travel along the route daily.
According to the organisers, the initiative was introduced in response to rising transportation costs and is intended to help residents reduce their daily transport expenses.
Public affairs analyst Musa Asiru Bakare described the initiative as an intervention that could provide relief to residents who rely on public transportation.
Bakare said the service could assist workers travelling to their places of work, students going to school and traders travelling to markets.
He noted that reduced transportation expenses could provide relief for low-income households facing competing costs, including food, education, healthcare and transportation.
Bakare said the initiative could also bring constituency representation closer to residents by addressing an immediate transportation challenge.
He added that the commencement of the service in Lokoja could draw further attention to other programmes and interventions under the Karimi Cares initiative.
