Michael Olise scored a stunning goal as France were held to a draw by Italy in the Nations League.
The match marked Zinedine Zidane’s first home game as France manager after he led the team to two victories away from home during the international break.
Olise opened the scoring at the Stade de France with a powerful strike from outside the box that went in off the underside of the crossbar. Rayan Cherki had rolled the free-kick into his path.
The Bayern Munich forward has now been directly involved in 14 goals in 15 appearances for France this year.
Italy responded through Alessandro Bastoni, who won possession from Lucas da Cunha before beating the advancing Mike Maignan with a shot from the edge of the box.
France were reduced to 10 men late in the game after Dayot Upamecano was shown a second yellow card.
Italy have now recorded one win, one draw and one defeat since Roberto Mancini returned as head coach.
In the other Group A1 fixture, Belgium, under new manager Mark van Bommel, defeated Turkey 3-0.
Kevin De Bruyne scored twice, while Romelu Lukaku added Belgium’s third goal.
