Messi Arrives for Final Argentina Training Ahead of National Team Farewell

Lionel Messi has arrived at Argentina’s training camp for what is expected to be his final training session with the national team ahead of his farewell appearance on Tuesday.

Football transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed the development in a post on X, stating that Messi had arrived at Argentina’s training ground for the final time as a national team player ahead of his farewell match at the Monumental.

The 39-year-old captain is expected to feature in Argentina’s international friendly against Benin at the Estadio Monumental in Buenos Aires on October 6, 2026.

Messi’s anticipated farewell marks the end of an international career spanning more than two decades, during which he established himself as one of the greatest players in football history.

The Argentine legend has made 207 appearances for his country, scoring 125 goals to become Argentina’s all-time leading goalscorer. His remarkable international career includes two Copa América titles, won in 2021 and 2024, and the historic 2022 FIFA World Cup triumph in Qatar.

Argentina’s preparations for the farewell fixture follow a convincing 7-0 victory over Burkina Faso in their previous friendly at the Monumental on Saturday. Messi was rested for the encounter as the world champions continued their preparations for Tuesday’s match.

The meeting with Benin is expected to provide Argentine supporters with an opportunity to celebrate the career and achievements of their captain on home soil as he prepares to bring his international journey to a close.

Messi’s potential farewell will mark the end of an extraordinary chapter in Argentine football, defined by historic triumphs, individual brilliance and a lasting legacy with the Albiceleste.
