Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has submitted a supplementary budget of ₦22.1 billion to the Kogi State House of Assembly for consideration and approval.
This request comes just months after the Assembly approved the state’s main 2025 budget totaling ₦582.4 billion, pushing the overall budget for the year to ₦604.5 billion.
The letter containing the supplementary budget proposal was read during Tuesday’s plenary session by the Speaker of the House, Aliyu Umar. Governor Ododo noted that the revised budget is necessitated by emerging economic realities affecting both the state and the nation at large.
According to the governor, the supplementary budget is intended to address the ripple effects of fuel subsidy removal, rising inflation, and the demand for expanded infrastructural projects. He added that there is a pressing need to prioritize the safety and security of residents across the state, which the additional funds aim to support.
“The supplementary budget will help the state government respond more effectively to prevailing national challenges that are impacting our local economy and quality of life,” the Speaker read from the governor’s letter. Ododo emphasized that the funds would be directed toward stabilizing the state’s economy and bolstering development and security initiatives.
Following its presentation, the budget proposal was referred to the House Committee on Appropriation for detailed review. The committee is expected to present its findings and recommendations to the full House within two weeks for further legislative action.
