2027 Presidential Bid: Tinubu’s Support Grows Nationwide

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu seems to be steadily building momentum for a potential second-term bid. While he has not officially announced his re-election intentions, growing political endorsements from influential figures and groups across Nigeria indicate strong grassroots and elite support, signaling a possible run in the 2027 presidential race

Among the most prominent backers are the Progressive Governors’ Forum, comprising 22 state governors under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), and several regional political blocs. Notably, the North-Central APC Forum and the South-East Elders Alliance for Tinubu 2027, particularly the Enugu North Senatorial District chapter, have publicly pledged allegiance to the President’s leadership and possible continuity in office.

Individual endorsements have also poured in from high-ranking political figures. Governor Umo Eno, Governor Mohammed Umar Bago, and Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State have thrown their weight behind Tinubu. Remarkably, even opposition voices, including the three PDP senators from Osun State, have reportedly declared support, showcasing the President’s cross-party appeal.

Several federal lawmakers and ministers have also spoken in favour of President Tinubu’s re-election. These include Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, and Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo. Movements like the Asiwaju Political Movement (APM) and the National Council for Presidential Support (NCPS) have equally been vocal in their backing.

Despite the growing chorus of support, President Tinubu had in April advised his supporters to hold off on open campaigns, citing regulations by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) which frowns upon premature electioneering. He emphasized that the focus should remain on governance and delivering the promises made to Nigerians.

The list of supporters also features non-state actors such as former militant leader Government Ekpemupolo (Tompolo), political figure Chief Ayirimi Emami, and pressure groups like the Northern Minority Alliance for Balanced Leadership (NOMAL). The increasing endorsements signal that political alignments are already in motion, potentially setting the stage for a high-stakes 2027 election cycle.
