75 Years of Journalism Excellence: Governor Ododo Lauds Nigerian Tribune’s Legacy

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has commended the Nigerian Tribune Newspapers as the media giant marks its 75th anniversary. In a message to the management and staff, Governor Ododo praised the newspaper’s longstanding commitment to truth and responsible journalism.

“Nigerian Tribune has played a pivotal role in shaping public opinion, holding leaders accountable, and championing transparency,” Governor Ododo remarked. “For over seven decades, the paper has set the standard for ethical journalism in Nigeria, becoming a trusted voice for millions.”

Governor Ododo lauded the enduring legacy of the Nigerian Tribune, describing it as a beacon of fact-based reporting, even in a media landscape challenged by misinformation and fake news. He noted that the publication’s dedication to truth, balance, and objectivity has set it apart as a reputable news organization.

“In an age where unverified information spreads rapidly, the Nigerian Tribune stands out for its unwavering commitment to integrity,” the Governor added. “It has become a symbol of credibility, consistently delivering news that educates, informs, and upholds the public trust.”

Reflecting on the role of responsible journalism in upholding democracy, Governor Ododo emphasized that publications like the Nigerian Tribune are essential to sustaining democratic values and the rule of law in the country. He expressed optimism that the 75th-anniversary celebration would inspire the newspaper to continue its pursuit of journalistic excellence.

“Marking 75 years is a significant achievement, and I believe it will motivate the Nigerian Tribune to uphold its tradition of ethical reporting,” he stated. “A free, fair, and responsible press is indispensable for our democracy.”

Founded on November 16, 1949, by Chief Obafemi Awolowo and his wife, Hannah Dideolu, the Nigerian Tribune has established itself as one of the nation’s pioneering media institutions. Over the years, it has built a solid reputation for its fearless journalism, standing as a pillar of public enlightenment and advocacy for good governance.
