Nigerian international Igoh Ogbu has committed his future to Slavia Prague by signing a contract extension that will keep him at the Czech club until 2027, citing the opportunity to play UEFA Champions League football as a key motivation.
The 25-year-old defender believes the extension aligns perfectly with both his professional ambitions and personal growth.
Ogbu, who joined Slavia Prague from Norwegian side Lillestrøm in January 2023, emerged as a pillar in the club’s defense. His commanding performances have not gone unnoticed, attracting interest from clubs in other top European leagues. However, the former Flying Eagles star opted for continuity, saying Slavia offers the stability and ambition he needs at this stage of his career.
Speaking to the club’s official media channel, Ogbu expressed his enthusiasm about staying. “Extending my contract was the best decision for me,” he said. “I understand the system and philosophy here, which gives me confidence. And I’ll also get the chance to play in the Champions League, which has always been my dream.”
The central defender featured in 34 matches across all competitions last season, scoring twice and registering one assist. Beyond the statistics, Ogbu has drawn praise for his leadership, aerial dominance, and consistency, helping Slavia challenge for domestic honors and European qualification.
With Slavia Prague regularly competing at the top of the Czech First League and pushing for success in Europe, Ogbu’s new deal signals his readiness to test himself on bigger stages. Club insiders suggest the extension is part of a larger strategy to retain key talents ahead of next season’s continental campaign.
For Ogbu, the new contract is not just a reward for past performance but a vote of confidence in the club’s vision. “My focus is on helping Slavia win titles and make a deep run in Europe,” he added. “It’s about legacy and growth, and I believe I’m in the right place to achieve both.”
