Kogi State Commissioner for Finance, Budget, and Economic Planning, Hon. Asiwaju Idris, has disbursed grants to over 30 business owners under the MAAI Network for Governor Ododo’s MSMEs Grant Initiative.
Recall that the MAAI Network had earlier held a one-day MSMEs lecture to educate business owners on access to finance, growth strategies, and sustainable entrepreneurship.
The grants, ranging between ₦500,000 and ₦1.7 million, were presented to beneficiaries in Lokoja as part of efforts to support Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises in the state.
Hon. Idris, who is also the founder of the MAAI Network, described the disbursement as a deliberate strategy to empower Kogites, boost local businesses, and promote investment in the state’s vast mineral resources.
He stressed that tapping into these resources is key to job creation and economic growth, adding that Governor Ododo has continued to encourage Kogites in the diaspora to return and invest in the state’s rich natural and human resources.
“We are already seeing results. Just two weeks ago, one of them told me he is coming to establish an industry in the solid minerals sector,” he said.
He further highlighted Governor Ododo’s recent investment drive through international engagements in Qatar, China, and London to attract foreign investors.
Hon. Idris affirmed the government’s continued commitment to supporting businesses through training, mentorship, and policy reforms that enhance ease of doing business.
“The ease of doing business is improving, but the Governor’s target is for us to rank among the top three states in Nigeria. That’s the goal,” he assured.
He also encouraged entrepreneurs to be innovative, create value, and make meaningful contributions to society.
Also speaking, Commissioner for Education, Hon. Wemi Jones emphasized the role of discipline in business success.
“If you’re not disciplined, no matter what you know, you can’t move forward,” he warned.
Hon. Jones commended Asiwaju for translating the values of Governor Ododo into action through the initiative.
In the same vein, the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Hon. Muhammed Shuaibu, advised beneficiaries to remain focused, sincere, and committed to their business goals.
