Manchester United have pulled off a major transfer victory with the imminent signing of RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, who has arrived in the UK to finalize his medical ahead of a £74 million switch to Old Trafford.
The 21-year-old Slovenian marks the latest high-profile addition under manager Ruben Amorim, who has been urgently rebuilding United’s front line following a dismal 2024/25 campaign. Despite strong interest and a higher wage offer from Newcastle United, Sesko opted for the Red Devils, signaling the renewed pull of Manchester’s footballing project.
Newcastle had initially led the charge, tabling a competitive £71 million bid accepted by Leipzig earlier this week. However, sources close to the player suggested he was holding out for a proposal from United. That offer eventually arrived, totaling £74 million, including £66.4 million up front, £7.6 million in add-ons, and a lucrative pre-season friendly arrangement between the two clubs.
Sesko’s preference for United is believed to be heavily influenced by Amorim’s attacking blueprint, which has already seen the arrivals of Matheus Cunha from Wolves and Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford. The trio now form the backbone of a reimagined attack worth over £200 million – a bold statement of intent after United’s lowest Premier League goal tally in decades.
The forward landed in Manchester late Thursday evening, with over 10,000 fans tracking his flight online in anticipation. He is expected to complete his medical on Friday before being officially unveiled at Old Trafford on Saturday, when United take on Fiorentina in their final pre-season fixture.
With his frontline now bolstered, Amorim is shifting focus to midfield reinforcements, eyeing Brighton’s Carlos Baleba as the next piece of the puzzle.
