Isak Eyes Liverpool Switch as Newcastle Race to Reinforce Squad

Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak is pressing for a move to Liverpool ahead of the 1 September transfer deadline, with the Sweden international making it clear that joining the Premier League champions is now his top career ambition.

Liverpool saw a £110 million bid for Isak rejected at the start of August, but the 24-year-old remains determined to push through a transfer. Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has confirmed that the forward is currently not part of his immediate plans, ruling him out of the club’s season opener against Aston Villa.

Isak’s desire to leave comes after a prolific 2024-25 campaign in which he scored 27 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions. Despite having three years remaining on his contract, the striker is eager for a fresh challenge and the opportunity to compete regularly in the Champions League.

Newcastle’s recruitment efforts have so far been hampered, with the Magpies missing out on targets including Liam Delap, Benjamin Sesko, and Hugo Ekitike. Securing a top-tier replacement has proven difficult, raising concerns among fans about the club’s attacking depth.

The Tyneside club continues to monitor Brentford forward Yoane Wissa as a potential solution, while also closing in on defensive reinforcements. AC Milan’s Malick Thiaw is expected to join Newcastle in a £34.6 million deal, as Howe seeks to strengthen multiple areas of his squad.
