Kogi Leads as First State to Hand Over Land for Federal Bus Terminal in Lokoja

The Kogi State Government has taken the lead in advancing the Federal Government’s transport infrastructure drive by officially handing over land title documents for the construction of a Federal Bus Terminal in Lokoja to the Ministry of Transportation.

The project, part of a nationwide initiative to establish modern bus terminals across Nigeria’s six geo-political zones, will position Lokoja as the North Central hub. The Kogi terminal is expected to serve as a major transit point, given Lokoja’s strategic location connecting several states across the country.

Speaking during the handover ceremony in Abuja, Kogi State Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Atuluku Victor Levi, said the development reflects Governor Yahaya Bello’s commitment to improving transportation infrastructure and boosting economic growth. He explained that Kogi became the first state to present its land documentation, demonstrating its readiness to align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Hon. Atuluku assured that the state government would continue to partner with the Federal Government to drive infrastructural reforms aimed at easing movement, enhancing trade, and improving inter-state connectivity. He added that the project would not only modernize the transportation sector but also open up new economic opportunities for residents.

In his remarks, the Minister of Transportation, Senator Sa’id Ahmed Alkali, commended Kogi’s proactive approach and described Lokoja as an “undeniable transit powerhouse” linking over ten states. He stressed that the terminal will play a vital role in improving road safety, reducing traffic congestion, and creating thousands of direct and indirect jobs for Nigerians.

The Federal Bus Terminal, once completed, will complement Kogi’s existing state-owned mega terminal and strengthen Lokoja’s position as a critical gateway for road transportation in Nigeria. With this milestone, Kogi sets the pace for other states expected to follow suit in providing land for the nationwide transport infrastructure initiative.
