Kogi Gov’t Backs Meritocracy in Civil Service, Names 11 New Permanent Secretaries

‎Kogi State Government has emphasized its commitment to merit-based appointments with the approval of new Permanent Secretaries to oversee key Local Government Areas across the state.

‎The Head of Civil Service, Dr. Elijah Evinemi, disclosed the development while briefing journalists in Lokoja, noting that the decision was guided by transparency and fairness.

‎He said the appointments were based on rigorous examinations, interviews, and screenings to ensure only competent officers emerged.

‎According to him, the newly appointed officials will fill vacancies in Ankpa II, Dekina II, Ibaji, Idah, Kogi/Koton-Karfe, Lokoja II, Yagba West, Mopa-Amuro, Ogori/Magongo, Okehi, and Okene Local Government Areas. He described the exercise as a milestone in strengthening the state’s bureaucracy.

‎Dr. Evinemi applauded Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for sustaining a culture of meritocracy in civil service reforms, stressing that the Governor’s stance has restored confidence among workers and projected the administration as one that rewards hard work and integrity rather than sentiment.

‎He urged the appointees to view their new roles as a call to higher service, with expectations to uphold loyalty, discipline, and professionalism.

‎According to him, Permanent Secretaries play a critical role in policy implementation and governance efficiency.

‎In their response, Mr. Maji Enoch and Mr. Moses Dare, who spoke on behalf of the appointees, expressed gratitude to the Governor and pledged their readiness to deliver on their mandates, assuring that they would not betray the trust reposed in them.
