Kogi Students Launch Initiative to Strengthen Campus Security

The National Association of Kogi State Students (NAKOSS) has launched a Students’ Security Communication Orientation Summit in partnership with the state government.

This was unveiled at a campus security summit with the theme “From Awareness to Action: Security and Communication for All,” marking the beginning of a two-phase initiative that will extend to all campuses of higher educational institutions in the state.

The programme is designed to build a coordinated communication network for students’ safety across the state’s higher institutions.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony at the Government House in Lokoja, Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Monday Anyebe, commended the leadership of NAKOSS for championing the cause of students’ safety through communication.

He noted that youth involvement in security initiatives complements the state government’s ongoing efforts to equip security agencies and curb insecurity.

“Security is everyone’s responsibility,” Anyebe said. “When young people take ownership of safety, it strengthens the foundation of peace.”

Deputy Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon. Comfort Nwuchola also praised the initiative, describing students as “critical agents of peace and social order.”

NAKOSS President, Comrade Adeola Sunday, explained that the summit was inspired by the commitment of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo to security and youth empowerment.

He announced plans to distribute educational materials and extend awareness about campus security through an outreach programme to campuses and secondary schools in the state.

The initiative, he said, aims to foster early awareness and responsibility among younger students.

Security agencies present at the event also emphasized need for personal vigilance and collective responsibility.

The event brought together government officials, lawmakers, and security operatives, all aligning behind a shared vision of empowering students to become active partners in safeguarding their communities.

The event concluded with a collective pledge by students, government officials, and security operatives to sustain communication-based strategies that make campuses safer and more secure, marking the beginning of a new era of proactive student engagement in security matters in Kogi state.
