The Kogi State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing marine safety and improving water transportation across the state through the deployment of new fibre fly boats and life jackets.
The Commissioner for Transportation Development, Hon. Atuluku Victor Levi, disclosed this while addressing newsmen during the official deployment ceremony of twenty-five-seater fibre boats and twenty-five life jackets aimed at improving safety, affordability, and comfort in marine transport.
Hon. Atuluku commended the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for strengthening agencies under the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy and the Niger Hydro-Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) in their efforts to promote safe and efficient waterway transportation.
He also praised Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his commitment to implementing people-centered policies that ease the daily challenges of citizens, noting that the deployment of the boats reflects the strong collaboration between the state and federal governments.
According to the commissioner, two boats will operate along the Lokoja–Ganaja–Shintaku–Pata–Budon–Kotokarfi waterways, while one each will serve the Bagana–Omala and Idah–Ibaji routes.
Hon. Atuluku expressed appreciation to both the Federal and State Governments for the initiative and called on the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria to ensure the sustainability and protection of the project. He emphasized that strict safety enforcement measures will be implemented to guarantee a smooth and secure marine transport system across Kogi State.
He reiterated that the initiative aligns with the state government’s broader goal of promoting safe, affordable, and efficient transportation for all residents.
