Kogi State Accountant-General, Hajia Habibat Onumoko, has reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to promoting fiscal discipline, transparency and accountability across all local government councils in the state.
She stated this at the opening ceremony of the Advanced Fiscal and Administrative Training for Local Government Council Staff, organized by the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs at the Government House in Lokoja.
Onumoko commended the Ministry for initiating the capacity-building programme, describing it as timely and consistent with Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s vision of strengthening institutions and entrenching fiscal discipline at all levels of governance.
She emphasized that sound financial management remains the foundation of sustainable development, urging participants to adopt best practices that promote efficiency, transparency, and effective service delivery.
According to her, the Ododo administration places high priority on fiscal responsibility, prudent resource management, and the capacity development of public servants.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Abdulsalami Ozigi Deedat, commended the Accountant-General for her dedication to strengthening financial operations in the local government system.
He noted that the administration would continue to build a result-driven workforce that upholds accountability and excellence in public service.
The opening ceremony of the training was attended by top government officials, including the Chairman of the Kogi State Local Government Service Commission, Hon. Adams Adabenege; Director-General of the Kogi State Pension Commission, Hajia Mariam Abedo; Executive Chairmen, Local Government Treasurers, Directors of Finance, and Heads of Departments from across the 21 local government areas of the state.
